Meet the Founder
Miguel Martinez-Saenz, PhD is a higher education strategist, writer, and advisor working at the intersection of learning, leadership, and moral imagination. With senior leadership experience across enrollment, student success, internationalization, and athletics, his work centers on helping institutions navigate complexity without losing sight of their deepest purposes.
Through Ethos Studio Consultancy, Miguel partners with universities, foundations, and mission-driven organizations to design human-centered strategies—particularly in areas shaped by AI, personalization, and workforce alignment. He is especially interested in systems that move beyond one-size-fits-all models toward approaches that honor dignity, difference, and demonstrated competence.
Miguel’s writing and advisory work is grounded in a simple conviction: education is not a transaction, but a moral practice—one that should enlarge freedom, cultivate judgment, and make belonging possible.
Jim Collins, author of Built to Last, Good to Great, How the Might Fall, BE 2.0 and more, loves to tell the story of Darwin E. Smith, someone most readers have probably never heard of. As Smith was ending two decades at the helm of Kimberly-Clark, maker of Kleenex and other personal-use paper products, he was asked what had driven him, what had he done to make his company so successful over time.
“I was just trying to become qualified for the job,” Collins quotes Smith as saying.
